Faustus

"Fools that will laugh on earth, most weep in hell."

30th, 31st of July and 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th of August at 7.30 pm.

St Thomas' Church Hall

Tickets free

Directed by Cristina Alvarez

The play:

Both humour and the macabre intertwine in this fresh (and a little campy) reimagining of Marlowe's play, loosely inspired by early XXth century fashions and silent films, but given the low-budget comedic spin of Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies. You'll be sure to spend an amusing evening in Hell, but then again, "All places shall be Hell that are not Heaven." The advantage of this play is that, if you don't laugh, you will get a full refund.

The director:

Cristina Alvarez flew into the British Isles like a migratory coconut. She has been with CSF since 2023, when she wandered into the rehearsals for Hamlet and never really left. She likes how welcoming and warm they are, and hopes more people join in the future. In this, her directorial debut for theatre, she is assisted by Fiona Kettle, who has a long and proud history with the CSF, and who has been a guiding hand for Faustus.

The venue:

St Thomas’ Church Hall,  59 Burgate, Canterbury, CT1 2HJ
